Middlesbrough 53 Consett 18

The final home game of the season saw Middlesbrough playing host to Consett in Regional 2 North.

Five minutes into the game Boro ship the ball along the backs to wing Brendan Hill who scores the opening try out wide 5-0. Consett reply with a penalty 5-3. Scrum for Boro and No. 8 Ollie Hodgson takes the ball from the base and scores. Hill converts 12-3. A clearance kick from the visitors does not find touch. Pete Homan fields it on the right wing and passes across to full back Matthew Marsay in the middle of pitch, who then sends an equally long pass to Hill on the left wing. Hill takes the ball down the touchline he then feeds lock Finlay Magowan on his inside to score, great backing up by the big man. Hill converts 19-3. Consett then score a try of their own after a line out drive 19 10. Boro Fly Half, Steve Jones, then flings the ball out to Marsay who feeds Hill to score again.

HT 24-10

Consett hit the first points of the second half with a penalty 24-13. Big scrum from the Boro pack puts Consett on the back foot. They fail to clear and the ball ends up with centre Aedan Moloney, who crosses the whitewash 29-13. Great running from deep sees Boro earn a scrum. The ball is shipped out to Hill who tip toes down the touchline but is tackled a metre short. He then passes inside and Marsay picks up the ball round his boot laces and in one motion dives in at the corner 34-13. Consett rally and score from a driven lineout 34-18. Boro reply straight away with the forwards driving and pulling in defenders. Homan then has a strong run and then skipper Jack McPhillips sends a sumptuous pass out to Hill to score he converts 41-18. Not sure i have the words in my lexicon to describe the next Boro try. Hands, hands and more hands. Left, right, inside, outside, up the field to open side Rohan Brown who breaks the line and scores under the sticks. Coversion is good 48-18. The final play of the game sees Boro taking the ball on to feed Hill to score.

FT 53-18

A Great performance by Middlesbrough that keeps us top of the league by points difference from Northern FC. After 21 rounds we are neck and neck ahead by only 9 points difference.

The final game of the season is on Saturday April 5th at local rivals West Hartlepool

Hope to see you there
