Aspatria 26 Middlesbrough 44
Middlesbrough travelled away to Cumbrian side Aspatria in their latest Regional 2 North match. Early doors in the contest a line out leads to No 8 Toby Tremlett going through a gap to score the opener for Boro 0-5.
The match was then made with both teams attacking and defending well. Are we on for another Rip-Snorter? You bet we are. Boro then have some attempts at the Aspatria line, the home side repel them 3 times with kicks away. On the fourth assault Boro Full Back Matthew Marsay attacks, dummies a pass to wing Rhys Kilbride, and scores himself 0-10.
Aspatria respond and close to within 30m of Boro’s line their second row then waltzes thru the line to score con good 7-10.
A great kick from fly half Shay Barritt sees Boro advance to the opposition red zone where, after a penalty for holding on, Josh “Lyno the Rhino” Lynas scores and Aedan Moloney adds the con 7-17.
Straight from the kick off Barritt hits a 50/20 but the Cumbrians steal the ensuing line out and clear their lines, the ball is returned with interest with Forwards Ali Lang, Joe Sawdon and Toby T scoring, the kick is good from Moloney 7-24.
Another Boro raid sees the Rhino break free and feeds the ball out to Finlay Magowan to score 7-32.
Boro then gain a penalty approaching half time which they kick leaving us 7-32 at the break.
After a good start to the second half Aspatria get within 2m of the Boro line. A turnover sees Boro run the ball up the field scrum half Conner Foley gets the ball to Marsay and another dummy sees him cross the whitewash 7-37.
Aspatria are then on the attack and close within touching distance of the try line. They kick into the dead ball area where Lang tidies up. From the resulting drop out the ball is kicked out on the full and the home side are awarded a scrum 5m out. Boro infringe and Asp are awarded a Penalty try 14-37.
Boro respond with a great line out move Sawdon to Magowan back to Sawdon who creates space for Moloney to stride through the centre to score kick good 14-44.
Aspatria have come into the game now and their scrummage is looking very strong they drive forwards and score 19-44, 5 minutes to go.
The home team take a scrum against the head and unsurprisingly opt for another, resulting in another penalty try.

York Colts 5 – 26 Middlesbrough Colts
The colts went to York needing a win with a bonus point yesterday to keep the dream of winning the league alive.
The first 20 minutes was the best I’ve seen us play. York not touching the ball once. Even a driving maul from just past the 22 making it into the 5 meter was impressive. Soon Boro were 14 points to 0 up. Another try just before half time and one from York saw Boro going into the break 19 points to 5 up.
2nd half we just couldn’t get motoring in attack, but the defence was fantastic. With full time looming and less than 5 minutes on the clock, time to get the 4th try and that all important bonus point, the forwards crashed a few balls up and it went out to the backs with some great hands. Also, great feet from Brandon Green and he found the gap to put the ball under the sticks final score Boro Colts 26 York 5.
The league if my maths is right is back in our hands and could go down to points scored/against difference with 2 games to play at home we need to rack the points up but win or loose this has been a fantastic season and all the lads should be proud of themselves.
Man of the match goes Dan Musicka he was fantastic today never missed a tackle and was even off his line to tackle some big props he showed great awareness and looked like he was enjoying himself doing in which is not your typical number 9 🤣
Next game Sunday the 23rd away to Huddersfield Yorkshire cup semi final hopefully keep the dream of doing the impossible double alive.

Boro U14s 29 v 22 Wetherby
Boro Battle Past Wetherby in the Yorkshire Plate Semi Finals. A gritty 29-22 victory over Wetherby in a fiercely contested semi-final.
In perfect rugby conditions, the home side showcased their attacking firepower while standing strong in defence when it mattered most. Tries from Archie Smith, Jack Smith, Charlie Seaman, Haelma Pemba, and Shea O’Hara highlighted Boro’s attacking depth, with Christian Boyes adding three crucial conversions.
Captain Lewis Boyes led by example, driving his team forward in both attack and defence in a true captain’s performance.
Wetherby refused to back down, keeping the scoreline close until the final whistle, but a last-gasp, try-saving tackle from unsung hero Seth Naughton ensured Boro held on for the win.
Fingers crossed Boro qualify for the final!!
Wasps and ‘A’ Team
The Wasps and A Team were also in action over the weekend, but both teams left the field disappointed. However, it must be noted the disappointment wasn’t solely down to the result, especially for the Wasps. A strong Tynedale scored 2 tries each half making the final score 0 – 14. The game was a hard fought contest and to leave the filed with no points disappointed more than the result.
