Colts 27 – 20 Roundhegians
Yesterday we welcomed Roundhegians to Acklam park for the quarter final of the Yorkshire cup. From the off the Colts were under pressure and not really getting to grips with the pace of the game. Although, strong forward play got Boro up the pitch, the territory gained was not turned into the points it deserved. However, credit must be given to Roundhegians who broke with speed and accuracy. The 1st half score being 20 points to 5 to the opposition.
At the break the Colts discussed that the game was still there to be won, and that they had to believe in themselves and start playing as a team . That is exactly what they did.
As with the first half the forwards dominated. The scrums went forward and the opposition just could not match the power the Boro forwards. Recognising the advantage the Colts then seized on this dominance and took advantage of it. As a result, the backs wanted in on the action and started to get motoring with some moves of their own. Suddenly the lads were playing as a team again.
The result; the opposition pinned in their own half most of the second half and four unanswered tries, one of which was converted.
Roundhegians tried waved after wave to break the dominance. In particular the visiting 9 who ran everything from the away 22. The Colts however, tackled resolutely to keep the visitors camped in their over half.
The final score being the mighty Boro Colts 27 points to Roundeagons 20.
Coach Dennis said afterwards “For the boys to have an off day and still be triumphant shows just how far this group of lads have come together. Man of the match goes to Logan. I lost count of how many balls he turned over always in the right place, ready to pounce on the ball. A great little player well done logan 👏”.
The semi-final will be played 23 February away to Huddersfield. (Hopefully a bus trip on for it).
