Kirkby Lonsdale 5 Middlesbrough 41
Another trip along the A66 to Cumbria to play away at Kirkby Lonsdale. Boro kick off and after 6 minutes of pressure they score after a line out drive with hooker Jack Cook touching down 0-5.

The game is being played in the home teams half, Boro recycle constantly and then shift the ball right. A long pass falls short but wing Sean Moloney picks it up on the bounce and side steps his way over the line 0-10.

KL show some fight and after a penalty then consecutive rucks hey score a try of their own 5-10.

KL are showing some great defence and a superb 50-20 clears there lines only for them to knock on and Boro clear.

The game is locked in a tussle in midfield for the next 10 minutes until Boro run some great lines creating space for Finlay Magowan to score 5-15

This takes us up to Half Time KL 5 Boro 15.

A good move from Boro sees the ball fed from Shay Barritt to Jack McPhillips and on to wing Harry Bryce who could have scored out wide but passed inside to Henry Nyinguro to score. Aedan Moloney kicks the conversion 5-22. I must have missed a conversion earlier in the game as the score is corrected to 5-24 (Maca error?)

Boro then steal the ball and Bryce chips ahead for Pete Homan to score con is good 5-31.

After good play from the Boro backs Jack McPhillips gets the ball to Peter Homan to score his second 5-36. Homan then turns provider allowing Aedan Moloney to round off the scoring with a try.

Final Score Kirkby Lonsdale 5 Middlesbrough 41

Next week Boro are at home for a game against Upper Eden ko 2pm

Colts 30 v 17 Leys

The Colts played out an exciting game at home to Leys in a top of the table clash. Omens didn’t look good for the Colts in the first quarter.

Leys got off the mark with early pressure resulting in a score 0-5.

The pressure was sustained, but the Boro Colts showed real grit not to concede again. After settling the Colts worked up to score on the right side. 5-5.

However, the Colts were back up against it and Leys got a second converted try to take the score to 5-12.

Things looked even more grim for the Colts as the hooker was shown a red for leading with the elbow.

That red seemed to galvanise the young Colts because for the next 50 minutes they took hold of the game by the scruff of the neck to take the score to 30 – 12.

Leys, did have the last say. They took control of the game for the last 10 and had Boro camped out on the line, but Boro were in no mood to let too many over. Leys did manage one to leave the final score at 30-17.

Both teams did themselves proud. A real competitive edge and some great rugby played. Well done all.

U14s 33 -21 Otley

Boro Triumph Over Otley in Thrilling Contest

On a brisk January Sunday, Boro hosted Otley in the much-anticipated return fixture, securing a 33-21 victory in a game full of drama and standout moments.

The match began with Boro dominating possession, and their efforts were rewarded when Jack Smith broke through Otley’s resolute defence to score the opening try, which was duly converted by Christian Boyes. Despite Boro’s early lead, Otley fought back and levelled the score at 7-7 by half-time, setting up an exciting second half.

After the break, Boro wasted no time in taking control. Charlie Evans electrified the home crowd with a spectacular solo effort, running the full length of the pitch to score in the corner. Moments later, Evans struck again, intercepting a pass and racing under the posts for a second try, converted once more by Boyes.

The visitors responded with determined attacking play, but Boro held their nerve. Key tries from Lewis Boyes and Archie Brent proved decisive, ensuring Boro remained ahead in a hard-fought contest. Despite Otley’s spirited efforts, the hosts sealed the game with a well-earned 33-21 victory.

Boro now turn their attention to their next home fixture, where they will face Consett on Sunday, 2nd February.

Man of the match was awarded to Christian Boyes for his excellent game management and unsung hero was awarded to Fin Nicholson after covering every blade of grass and tackling Everyman for his team.
