The season is on us. It’s that time of year…No it’s not the Dropkick Murphy’s. It the start of the rugby season.
1st XV
The Boro have a good pre-season under the belt with a magnificent 40-29 win over Blaydon last weekend. On Saturday, 7 September the 1st XV welcome our neighbours West Hartlepool to Acklam Park in what promises to be an exciting season. Kick-off at 3pm.
For some, it may be the first time they see our new head player/coach Ollie Hodgson. A former Boro Junior who returns to the club after 10 years at Darlington Mowden Park. Ollie made 168 appearances for DMP and we are pleased he is back in Boro colours.
Without adding too much here, as there is no need… a first, we can now offer you an advanced view of the matchday programme. MRUFC aim to publish, each Friday* before the home games, an online edition of the matchday programme. In time we are looking to build up a directory, where you can view past editions, starting with the current edition. Round 1 – 1xt XV matchday programme
Finally, in advance of kick-off, there will be a minutes silence for Richard Ward, a long-standing Vice President and former Treasurer of MRUFC. Richard died in April and, at the request of the players, this is the first opportunity to show their respect. We all join the players in this touching tribute.
COLTS
As a precursor to the big kick-off the Colts will entertain Wetherby in their final pre-season friendly. The Colts will be looking to follow up good wins over DMP (47-5) and West Hartlepool (22-0). The Colts kick-off at 1pm.
WASPS & ‘A’ Team
The Wasps travel up to Tynedale for their first league fixture of the season. Many of the players have had a good run out in a couple of games involving the 1st XV. We wish them well on their travels. Kick-off at Tynedale is 3pm.
Unfortunately, the ‘A’ Team home fixture against Richmondshire had to be cancelled and has been re-arranged for 8 February 2025.
JUNIOR
Let’s not forget the rest of the games this weekend. The junior sides with games this weekend are as follows:
U16 Tynedale (home) – postponed until 15/09
