Middlesbrough 17 Keswick 18
Our first game of the new year saw us entertain Keswick, who could well be our bogey team having lost 3 of out of 4 meetings. The game kicked off in what can be best described as soggy conditions The stalemate was broken after 15 minutes when a kick pass from Keswick’s Fly half was perfectly caught by their winger who slid over the line to score. The tricky conversion was missed 0-5 Boro were giving there best but with passes not going to hand and ferocious defence they got nothing for their efforts Keswick added a penalty and the half time score was Boro 0 Keswick 8 After the break the home sides pressure was rewarded when, after a series of strong runs, scrum half Chis Lord took a quick tap and fed the ball out quickly to hooker Joe Sawdon who powered over to score con missed 5-8 Back in the game, Here we go Alas, no, our visitors recycle the kick off and score a converted try 5-15 Later in the half Boro attack with pace from full back Rhys Kilbride who feeds the ball to skipper Jack Mac and he gets the ball out to Alistair Lang to cross the whitewash 10-15 Crucially Keswick kick a penalty to extend their lead to 10-18 More pressure from Boro culminates in Joe Sawdon completing his brace and a good conversion from Nathan Booth turns it into a one point game 17-18 Boro had a chance to win it late on but a penalty just fell short of the posts.
