Boro Fall Short Against Cleckheaton in Hard-Fought Yorkshire Cup Clash
In a challenging second-round match in the Yorkshire Cup this past Sunday, Boro traveled to Cleckheaton and faced a well-drilled and dynamic team that showcased a blend of rugby league and union skills. Despite a tense start from both sides, Cleckheaton broke the deadlock with a try, quickly converting to establish a 14-0 lead.
Boro found their rhythm midway through the first half and created pressure in Cleckheaton’s half. Their efforts paid off when Jack Smith intercepted a pass, racing under the posts to score, with Christian Boyes adding the conversion. The halftime score left Boro trailing at 14-7.
Cleckheaton extended their lead after the break, capitalizing on Boro’s defensive lapses to score two more tries, pushing the score to 24-7. Boro’s best spell came in the final ten minutes, as Harry Thompson broke through multiple defenders to score, narrowing the margin to 24-12 before the final whistle.
Though the match ended in defeat, Boro gained valuable insights to apply on the training field. Jack Smith was awarded Player of the Match, while Archie Brent earned the Unsung Hero title for supporting one of opposing teams injured players.
Boro now look ahead to their next fixture, a home game against Hartlepool Old Boys on Sunday, November 10th, with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
