Middlesbrough 1stXV 39 – 8 Guisborough

Our latest round of games in Regional 2 North saw top of the table Middlesbrough take on local friends and rivals Guisborough at le Parc du Acklam.

The game kicked off with our visitors playing down the slope and they took the lead with a penalty kick 0-3. The score was evened out when points machine Brendan Hill struck a penalty through the uprights 3-3. Good attacking pressure from Boro with No. 8 Ollie Hodgson coming close after a strong run, and then hooker Cook held up over the line after a good run up the touchline. Eventually this pressure led to another converted penalty from Hill 6-3. A barnstorming run from Hill, bouncing off 4 would be tacklers, and then a pass inside to skipper Jack Mac to score out wide. 11-3. Just on half time Guisborough failed to convert a penalty leaving the score at the break Boro 11 Guis 3,

The second half started with Boro straight on the attack with the pack leading the charge. Josh “Lyno the Rhino” Lynas was everywhere in his 200th appearance, big Finlay Magowan distributing the ball well, strong running from Alistair Lang, Adam Marron et al. This attack culminated in a move along the backs sending substitute Matthew Marsay over for a try converted by Hill 18-3. It appeared that the floodgates were about to open, but a plucky opposition showed that the game was not over yet. The Priory men hit back with a well deserved try of their own 18-8.

Boro openside Rio then finished off a move after more strong direct running from backs and forwards alike. Hill’s con made it 25-8. A fantastic break from former skipper Pete Homan allowed him to feed the ball to Hodgson to score. Hill converted 32-8. Boro rounded off the game with a second try from Jack Mac and kick from Hill. Full time Boro 39 Guisborough 8.

What a good game thanks to Guisborough for never giving up and fighting to the very end. Well played Boro, after scores came in from around the league we lie second in the table on the same points as West Hartlepool. Next week we travel to Upper Eden for our last 3pm KO until the Spring.

As a club we put 3 sides out with the Wasps and A’s both winning their respective matches, Well done all. Rugby is thriving in the Boro

Medicals 12 – 70 Middlesbrough Wasps

Wasps got off to a flier up at the Medicals when an attempt to kick for touch was gathered by Rhys who ran 70 metres to score under the posts. How it stayed at 0-5 wasn’t reported but I am sure there was some consternation in the minds after 2 additional points were not added. Further pressure was added when medicals worked a very good score after numerous phases to get over the line to make it a 5-5 score.

Boro started to get the upper hand and from a 15 metre line out Henry got over the line to put Boro ahead 5-10. The conversion was missed but Boro had the upper hand and soon registered try number 3 under the posts and stretched the lead to 5-17. The dominance continued and Bore were were soon on 22 points. Simon Moore took advantage of a wheeled scrum and Will Deeks kicked the additional 2.

With a try bonus already secured the Boro were playing with confidence and accuracy. A line out was taken clean by Henry who charged the line with support from Helm who touched down for try number 5. The conversion was good and on 30 minutes Boro were 5-29 ahead.

Tails were up and two quick tries with one converted extended Boro’s lead to 5-41. The first a a lovely move through the hands after a lineout turnover (5-34) before a 7 point score on the stroke of half time.

The Medicals half time team talk added some steel to the defence and Boro’s first half rampage was slowed but still they scored one more but eventually the improvement led to a Medicals score which was converted to make the score 12-46. The Boro dominance took it’s toll and scores started to rack up. Chris Lord, who was awarded man of the match, scored to make it 51 in the 64th minute. Booth added 5 more minutes later when a Simon Moore cheeky off load found Booth who crashed over, the latter score been converted by a drop goal.

The rest of the game was dominated by Boro who scored two more converted tries to finish the rout by 12 to 70 points.

Man of the match was awarded to Chris Lord but a special mention to ‘Go Grease Lightning’ Reece and Mr Bryce who pshed for man of the match at centre. Nolly and Nathan G were also mentioned for their contribution from the bench.

All in all, a great follow up to las weeks result. Well done Wasps.

Middlesbrough Colts 36 – 14 Novocastrians

The Boro Colts hosted Novocastrians on Sunday at Acklam Park. The lads had a great defence throughout the game with some really good bits of play when the wind allowed it. Every one stood up to the challenge and had the beating off their opposite number. This group of lads are just getting better with every passing week well done everyone.

Best try celebration goes to Theo Murphy 👏👍

Skye and Will both had a blinder today both with man of the match performance but take nothing away from the rest of the lads it could of been any one of them if I’m honest.

Next game away to Mowden on Friday night time to be confirmed. UTB
