A Grand Day OutCockermouth 17 Middlesbrough 34With a coach packed with over 50 players, officials and supporters The Mighty Maroon and Golds took both 1st XV and the Wasps over to Cumbria for a pre-Christmas couple of fixturesThe 1st XV broke the deadlock straight from the kick off with yards gained by Matthew Marsay and Jack Mac eventually seeing the ball into Lightening Legs Rhys Kilbride to score the con was good 0-7Cockermouth hit back with a penalty 3-7Boro pressure with a couple of penalties inside the opposition 22, this comes to naught as the ball does not go to handEventually the pressure pays off and Boro extend their lead after a try from a scrum 3-12Our hosts put the pressure on again and after a penalty, which gets Chris Lord a 10 minute rest, they score a 7 pointer 10-12And that takes us to Half Time Cockermouth 10 Boro 12The Boro forwards are in ascendancy and after a penalty from the scrum the backs take the ball and feed to Brendan Hill who smashes thru the defensive line for 7 making it 10-19Boro pressure is leading to unrest in the Home sides ranks and 2 yellow cards are earned in quick succession.Brendan Hill hits a penalty 10-22Big Bad Billy Campbell joins the fray giving the Rhino Josh Lynas a well earned rest. Travelling along with the1st XV today Wincey’s Wasps jumped on the coach for an away fixture over at CockermouthStraight from the kick off Boro attack from their own half with Aaron Lawes making rapid progress up the field. This results in a scrum in the home teams 22″ the ball is won and fed along the backs to Aaron who crosses the whitewash 0-5Next Boro apply pressure to the Cockermouth scrum half who spills the pill and our own No9 Christopher McRobert pounces on it like a caterpillar 0-10Cockermouth then apply pressure and valiant defence from the away team keeps them at bayBoro on the attack again and after another great scrum Dougal scores and Francis kicks the extras 0-17Another great scrum allows Marcus Lang to pick up and score from a full 5000mm out.
