Cockermouth Report

19th September 2023
admin

On a cool and cloudy day we welcomed Cockermouth to Le Parc d’Acklam (thank you Monsieurr Cunningham pour le French grammatical correction) for our very first fixture. The  score line would suggest a walkover by the home side but the actual game was far from it with Cockermouth giving their all throughout the 80 minutes, never giving up and trying to play quality rugby..So to the game 14 minutes in and after some good hands the ball is given to full back Brendan Hill who scores and converts his own try 7-0Boro then lose lock James Walker on the day he received his coveted 1st team tie, to a back injury, replaced by Alistair Lang Adam Marron’s family later ask him why he was wearing 8 but playing 4, Mazza said ask James Walker!!!On 19 minutes we score try number two when skipper Pete Homan puts Alistair Lang though a gap follows the pass receives the ball back and scores Brendan Hill kicks the extras 14-0Boro make a tactical change giving Jack Mac a rest and giving  Aedan Moloney (I’m sure he changes the spelling of his name every week, depending on the size of my hangover) a run in the centres and Matthew Marsay time on the wing.Several phases later sees young Fly Half Shay Barritt give a good pass to Aedan who powers over to score 19-0HT Boro 19 Cockermouth 010 mins in Aedan Moloney picks up a loose ball from a ruck and streaks over to score Hill converts 26-0Jack Mac has returned to the fray by now and his pass sends Brendan over for his 2nd try of the game stretching out his Go Go Gadget arm to touch down he converts 33-0Matthew Marsay then takes the ball forward to give sets the ball up for Jack Mac to feed Brendan Hill to score his hat trick try he duly converts it 40-0Stumpy joins the match a week after earning his 1st team tie and the little Hoare goes closeBrendan Hill then makes a break from his own 22″ then desperately tries to find someone to run into to avoid buying a double jug for his 4th try, he succeeds and his wallet was safeSteven Hoare rounds off the scoring with a try converted by HillFinal Score Middlesbrough 47 Cockermouth 0I just want to take a quote from our visitors Twitter feed “Cockermouth RUFC strive to be the best they can be for all involved, U6 to 60 year old players, coaches, admins, spectators and sponsors. Get involved today?”This really sums up the spirit and determination they showed on the field yesterday, good times are definitely ahead for our new Cumbrian friends.Thank you to all who came to watch and support. Next week we travel to Cumbria to play Keswick KO 3pmThe following week we return to Le Parc d’Acklam to play Upper EdenHope to see you all in the coming weeksCiao for now
