Unfortunately I could not attend the game away at Carlisle yesterday, so this is how I imagine it went.
It was a glorious day in Acklam when Chairman Philip Tilson arrived at my place to fit my bath. After many trips to and from Screwfix, and plenty of deleted expletives we got it sorted thank you.
Oh the rugby, sorry I almost forgot. The lads went over for their 3rd trip to Cumbria this season to play Carlisle.
Early pressure from Boro saw veteran wing and octogenarian Don Brydon cross for 2 tries, one of which was converted by centre Colin McNeill 0-12
After a mazy run from his own 22 man on fire Don Brydon fed the ball to Peter Riley who crossed the whitewash Colin McNeill’s conversion made it 0-19 to the visitors.
Lots of veterans playing today, are they all registered still? MikeGlenis Wright was distributing well from 9 and it was him who sniped over after an incredible 90 yard driving maul led by Keith Bircham, Fordy and Richard Ward. Colin McNeill kick was good 0-26
Ian Bircham added the next try after collecting the ball deep and after 3 side steps and a dummy he crossed for a try out wide 0-31
The final try of the opening stanza saw the second row partnership of Jace Malcom and Paul Johnson combine well out in the centres for hooker Mark Willis to score HT Carlisle 0- Middlesbrough 36
Boro came out all guns blazing in the second half and it is not long before the back row combination of Martin Featherstone Ben Pattinson and Thomas Bivens get in on the action scoring the next 2 tries, they can fight out between them who scored 0-50.
Try for our hosts well deserved 5-50
HAT TRICK for birthday boy Don Brydon using his predatory skills to score 5-57
After being helicoptered in at the clubs expense Jason Carter Littleton and Philip Tilson combine to score the final points of the game and at no side it’s Carlisle 5 The Mighty Boro 64
Carlsberg don’t do fantasy rugby but if they did…..
Seriously the lads went over to Carlisle, had a great game by all accounts and scored tries thru Harry Bryce 3, Jack Luke 2, Toby Tremlett, Shaun Kay, Joe Sawdon, Brendan Hill and Sean Joseph with many a conversion from Andrew Baggett.
Thank you to those of you who travelled to support the lads.
Next week we are back at Parc du Acklam for a home fixture vs Consett
Hope to see you all there.
Happy Birthday Don Brydon and Maureen Brydon had a fab time at your party last night xx
